Mele began working with gourds, also known as calabash (Crescentia cujete), which is the fruit of an emblematic plant of Margarita island in Venezuela. The whimsical shapes of the fruit sparked her imagination and from them, lively figures whose designs are inspired by nature and characterized by her own unique style began to emerge.

In order to protect the environment, Mele is now using resins in the development of each of her artwork, while maintaining the original shape of the fruit that originally inspired her. Her pieces are true works of art whose color and vivacity bring originality and beauty to spaces with an authentic Venezuelan seal.
